A good liquid program is measured, not guessed.

Calibration helps an operator understand what the equipment is actually applying. Without that, it is easy to think a sprayer is doing one thing while the flow, speed, spray width, nozzle setup, or controller setting is telling a different story.

What calibration helps answer

Calibration is not just a technical exercise. It helps answer practical questions:

• How much fluid is moving through the system?
• How fast is the vehicle travelling?
• How wide is the spray pattern?
• Are the nozzles and strainers working properly?
• Are the controller settings matching the operator's goal?
• Is the product choice appropriate for the conditions?

Those questions matter because liquid de-icing depends on product, equipment, timing, surface temperature, and judgement.

Why guessing causes problems

If the system is not understood, operators can over-apply, under-apply, miss coverage, or lose confidence after a poor event.

That does not mean calibration guarantees perfect outcomes. Storm conditions still matter. Surface temperature still matters. Operator decisions still matter.

But calibration gives the crew a better starting point than guessing.
